The Truest Authority 1

By Rev. Kelvin N. Broadus

As life continues on its path of uncertainty, the one true understanding only becomes more evident: without structure and organization, chaos reigns. Yet even with such structure, if God is not at the head of the body, disaster is bound and inevitable. God being the head means that He is the ultimate authority of one's life, and the key of understanding and interaction of authority is obedience. First let us understand what authority and obedience are as found in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Authority - Power to influence thought or behavior; Persons in command
Obedience - submission to the restraint or command of authority

Often in this world comes conflict based upon these understandings. The greatest example of both in human form was Jesus Christ. He demonstrated the greatest obedience not only in His life, but also in His death, for only one with true obedience could have suffered turmoil and crucifixion, with the ability to remove himself from it, as did our Lord Jesus. He demonstrated authority as He also does now as the king of kings and lord of lords, the head of the church, the word, the way, truth and life. And even in His greatness, He is still yet obedient enough to give all of the glory to the father, God Almighty.
Even in this world there is structure, called governments, and though such establishments often abuse their authority, for us to disrespect it would be to disrespect God. There is a level of understanding to this though. Many people use a certain scripture to justify their behavior in the leadership position, trying to make it seem that they were chose by God to be in that position. Though God ordains leaders, government, etc., all that are in leadership are not of or from God. God established the STRUCTURE of government - order and decency - not necessarily the individuals. Through the structure that God established for us, WE are allowed to use that order and decent structure to obtain those individual leaders. Living in His obedience, we respect that leader that we chose. If we are to believe that all leaders in governmental structure are from God, they why were there such persons as Hitler, Saddam, and Bin Laden? Even many of our own Presidents have been corrupt. It was the structure that God established, not the individuals. If the individuals were established from God, man would not be told to resist the law of the antichrist when he comes into command, for such would be illegitimate of God, but God does not lie and is not the father of lies, the enemy is. God is righteous, true, love, and all positive in His glory and presence, and He cannot, does not, and will not lie. Jesus, who is also God's word in flesh and spirit, is the truth. With that understanding, shall come the greater understanding of obedience and authority.
