The Fear of God

By Rev. Kelvin N. Broadus

As it may sometimes seem weird for us to be told, we should fear God. This is not the type of fear that mankind tries to place upon others, but a type of respect and knowledge that GOD IS EXISTENCE. It is so easy to get caught up in mortal life and lose thought of how actually powerful God is. He created the earth and everything in it in six days; we won't fear that but will fear man who is only made of dust, please. Deuteronomy 8:6 says, "Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him." You can also find these in the Bible: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. (Ecclesiastes 12:13) and

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. (2 Corinthians 7)

This truth of fearing God as well as the visualization of His power through His works should be enough to convince anyone. When folks want to go behind their boyfriends/girlfriends/wives/husbands back and cheat, there's

no use being afraid of getting caught because GOD has already caught you!! That's where the fear should be. When you steal and kill, you shouldn't be scared of what the police will do, but what God will do!! This goes along with all of the sinful things we do because God is watching everything we do. He is staring at you right now. This God, my God, your God, God of  Israel, and Father of Jesus Christ, has proven time after time to be beyond greatness, beyond explanation, and beyond limitation. How can we do anything but have the utmost respect, love, and fear for Him.  As a personal testimony, at the mention of His name, I am struck down with awe. I don't feel that I am a bad person, but just from the fact that I am a

human, a mortal, born as a sinner, I don't feel worthy to even receive His love and mercy. It is such a blessing for Him to have chosen me as one of His preachers of His word. That is amazing grace because I was lost, and sometimes I still feel lost, but He never lets go of me. Glory to God. There is no way to capture the true greatness of Him, what He has done for me, or

what He has done for this world, but I can and will keep trying forever. I shall fear no evil, but I will fear God according to His instruction, and I will love, respect, and thank Him infinitely, with all of my heart, mind, and soul, in Jesus name, Amen.
